Abstract

Monitoring is a practice that needs to be considered to enhance the sustainability of construction projects, especially in developing nations such as Pakistan, where levels of complexity and uncertainty are widespread. In this study agility of organizations is being examined as a mediator and stakeholder engagement act a moderator variable between two independent variables (monitoring and evaluation) and project sustainability. Based on the Dynamic Capability Theory, adaptive monitoring represents a capacity that helps the project-based organization adjust to the evolving conditions and maintain the results in the long run. The quantitative research design was used to examine the dynamics of Monitoring, Stakeholder Engagement, and Project Sustainability in the construction-based project organizations in Pakistan. Data was gathered by use of structured questionnaire from 300 respondents. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), were applied to test and confirm the hypothesized relationship. The results show positive and significant relationship between Monitoring practices and Project Sustainability. This depicts the importance of adaptive Monitoring in supporting project decision-making, operational effectiveness, and project long-term sustainability. Although Stakeholder Engagement was reported to have a positive association to Project Sustainability, its moderating effect in the association between Monitoring and sustainability was not statistically significant. This indicates that its value may depend on other contextual or governance-related aspects. This research provides useful insights into how monitoring practices can affect the sustainability of a project, especially the moderating effect of stakeholder involvement. Although prior studies have acknowledged the role of sustainability in project outcomes, limited research has examined how adaptive monitoring and stakeholder engagement influence project sustainability in the construction industry of Pakistan.
